The Vision Behind EDI

Dr. Abdelrahman Abouelhassan is an obstetrician and gynaecological surgeon with a clinical focus on operative obstetrics, high-risk pregnancy, minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, Urogynecology, pelvic floor reconstruction, and advanced gynaecological surgery.

He completed his specialist training at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital in Cairo, Egypt one of the world's largest maternity hospitals with more than 18,000 births annually, where he gained extensive surgical experience across the full spectrum of obstetrics and gynaecology. He subsequently continued his clinical career in Germany and Austria and is currently practising at Feldkirch Academic Teaching Hospital, Vorarlberg, Austria.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Abouelhassan is actively involved in clinical research, surgical innovation, and medical education. His current research projects include the development and scientific evaluation of a novel uterotomy closure technique following caesarean section, designed to optimise uterine healing and reduce niche formation, as well as the development of new surgical approaches aimed at reducing postoperative pain after caesarean delivery. His research interests also include pelvic floor reconstruction, operative obstetrics, minimally invasive surgery, and simulation-based surgical education.

For more than a decade, he has been engaged in the organisation and delivery of international hands-on training programmes in obstetrics and gynaecological surgery, with a particular focus on operative techniques, obstetric emergencies, and the management of Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIS).
